As you all know I always share my funny experiences with you to plaster a smile on your face. And I used to be the prankster in most of the pieces I’ve written so far. But today, the “Player Got Played” people… Yes, I was pranked by a co-worker today as today was April Fool’s Day.

In fact, let me tell you how my day started and how it turned into fun at the workplace for at least a few minutes. 

As a part of my daily ritual, this morning when I woke up, I peeked at my phone for any messages or calls I had missed and glanced at the notification bar. I noticed the date as April 1—and for a moment, I reminisced about how special this day used to be during the school days.

Question: Who was the biggest prankster in your school days? Did you ever pull off a prank that left everyone in stitches?

Classroom filled with friends and frenemies… Room filled with laughter and mischief…. Hearts filled with love and friendship… Huhhh… Good old school days. 

I was missing those days badly and thought to myself, what if I did it here with my work friends? Then another thought hit me, ‘Come on, Act your age woman. You’re not a kid’. Then I did my morning chores and started working. My morning was actually pretty packed today—I had to cancel a bunch of interviews, complete certain tasks, and it was all work, work, and more work—until I missed a call from my co-worker, Sai.

This guy has always been a prankster—and a naughty one… just like me! 😜 But I should’ve seen it coming. Somehow, I missed it.

When I called him back, he said he needed some clarification on the attendance report I’d sent him earlier. Yeah… I’m his HR too… Lol. And still, he pranked me. Bad boy… I know… Lol.

I was being a responsible HR and asked him to join a Google Meet. When we connected on the call, he said, “Actually… April Fool, Annya! There’s nothing wrong with the report.”

Question: Have you ever been the victim of an April Fool’s prank at work? How did you react?

It was at that moment I realized he had pulled a prank on me. I immediately told him, “I was literally planning to prank people today but held back, thinking it would be childish. But now that I have company, let’s join forces and prank others!”

We teamed up right away and started planning our pranks. Lol!

We started picking victims 😜 for the prank. The first one we unanimously chose was Mahesh.

I told him that a customer needed help with one of our software products. I personally call him Heap’s Hero of our company… Lol! Mahesh is actually a very quiet guy—he never talks unless you make him… and I definitely make him!

I shared the same Google Meet link where Sai and I were already connected, so we could prank him. When the hero joined the call, he looked a little confused to see Sai instead of a customer. And before he could make sense of it, Sai and I shouted together, “April Fool!”

Then, we started recruiting Mahesh to join our prank squad. Our next victim? Sandeep.

Now, this guy is a little tricky. You might think he’s calm and collected, but people… watch out! He is definitely not who you think he is… Lol! But in a good way, of course.

I told him almost the same story—that a customer needed help and I needed Sandeep to handle it.

Unlike Mahesh, he immediately asked, “Which customer is this?”

See… I told you he’s tricky! I had to think fast, so I blurted out the name of a potential client, making sure nothing seemed suspicious. Then, I gave him the same Google Meet link to do the deed. Lol!

Question: Who’s the trickiest person you know? You think you’ve figured them out, but they always surprise you!

Again, he was a tough customer. The minute he joined the call, he instantly realized what was going on—but he was kind enough to let us say “April Fool!” at him anyway.

Then, he admitted that he had actually been planning to prank all of us, but we beat him to the punch. Yessss!!!

Like peas in a pod, we all decided to prank someone else. This time, we chose Bhupathi.

Almost everyone in our company calls him Bhoopoo now—and guess what? I was the one who coined that name for him. Lol!

Since he doesn’t deal with customers, we had to come up with a different story.

I remembered that he had posted in the attendance WhatsApp channel about working on a specific feature, so I told him I needed some clarification. Then, I shared the same link to discuss the “query.”

When he joined the call, he genuinely thought we all had the same question. And that’s when I hit him with—

“Bhupathi, my doubt was whether I’d be able to prank you and say ‘April Fool’… and turns out, I can!”

I said it with such a straight face that, for a couple of seconds, I think he genuinely believed it was a real inquiry.

Then we started laughing and honestly, we would’ve kept going if my mom hadn’t called me in for help. So, I had to leave. 

That was our little funny adventure for the day, and it was so refreshing! We’re always working hard, and it’s small moments like these that keep us going. These memories give us a break from the routine and keep our spirits high.I’d say this April Fool’s Day should really be called April Cool’s Day! Don’t you agree? 😆
