Just a couple of days ago, I grew a year wiser 😉 and I want to pen down some interesting details that happened. Usually I always keep announcing it’s my birthday to everyone but this year I felt like a saint for not doing those things. Maybe I did get wiser, Lol.
It was the day before the actual birthday, and it was a Sunday. Since it was a weekend, my kid, my mom, and I were all busy resting. Of course, Erin and I grew tired and started resting after all the games we played and preparing for her Tamil test the next day. And Amma, my mom, was busy taking a nap. I think it was around 6 PM in the evening, I was heading to the hall as a responsible house member to turn on the lights to the porch area. While I crossed amma’s room I could hear her phone ringing.
I thought that she would answer the phone and when I was returning back I could hear the phone still ringing and another noise, my mother’s snoring. So I decided that I will answer the call for her. By the time I touched the phone, the call got disconnected. I was curious to see who had called and it was my sister who had called from Maldives. When I thought to hit the call back button, the phone started receiving texts from her. And there it was-the big surprise.
Apparently, my sister had ordered a cake from my bestie’s cake shop to surprise me, and it was on its way. She wanted Amma to collect the cake before I could see it. When I read the text, I immediately realized what had happened, and I couldn’t hold my laughter in. I burst out laughing and typed back, ‘Sure, I’ll let Amma know. I think my sister would have been pissed to get the text and she started calling me some names- Hey, no, I can’t say that. It’s my little sister’s reputation on the line lol.
Question: What’s the best (or funniest) surprise someone has planned for you?
By this time, my loud laughter had woken Amma up, and she asked what happened. I told her, ‘The surprise is arriving! Let me go back to my room so you can surprise me later tonight,’ and moved from there. In that moment, I felt so loved—and even funnier still, because I had totally ruined the surprise for them both.

I wanted to share this moment with all of you and dedicate this blog to the wonderful people who made it special—
- To my mom, for being in deep sleep at just the right moment, giving me the perfect opportunity to ruin the surprise. 😆
- To my sister, for planning this sweet surprise (which, well… didn’t exactly go as planned).
- To my bestie, for baking the cake that remained a mystery until the next morning—because after I went back to my room, I couldn’t find it anywhere! Turns out, Amma had hidden it away and only brought it out the next day.
And this is just the beginning! Stay tuned for more stories—because my family and I have created plenty of unforgettable moments, and let’s just say… some reputations may be at risk (in the funniest way possible). 😜
