Through this poem of mine, I invite you to dive into the clash between societal expectations and personal empowerment. Through simple verses, I aim to inspire you, the reader, and extend a request to inspire others as well. Join me in this journey of reflection and empowerment.
They said, ‘Hey little girl’
Keep your head down,
For your dreams are too bright,
Or the society would frown.
I said, ‘My little girl’
Hold your head high,
They’re your dreams to embrace,
Your limit is the sky.’
They said, ‘Don’t talk back’,
Nor look at boys,
For you will be branded,
The shrew among the flock.’
I said, ‘Fear not my child,
To stand up for yourself,
For your friends and family,
You are your mother’s pride.’
They said, ‘Fashion is not passion,
Nor cooking or higher studies,
For women are to rule only kitchen,
Men and his family.’
I said, ‘If flying is your passion,
Keep your compassion in fashion,
For my little girl, this is your life,
You are born to rule the world.’
